PLOT SUMMARY...
The Enterprise transports an alien ambassador (whose appearance can drive people mad) and his female, psychic companion.

This episode features the unusual relatiobship between a horribly ugly alien ambassador and his blind, psychic female companion. Diana Muldaur is winning as Dr. Miranda Jones, the companion to the alien ambassador. The Vulcan IDIC medallion shows up for the first time, worn by Mr. Spock.s

SYNOPSIS...
The Enterprise is assigned to transport alien Ambassador Kolos, which lives inside a compact box. It is accompanied by Dr. Miranda Jones, a beautiful telepath who is devoted to the Ambassador. Kirk is attracted to Dr. Jones.

When the alien's box is opened up, as it is several times during the journey, those who see Kolos go crazy, in reaction to its alien ugliness. The Enterprise is hurled into another dimension.

With the aid of Kolos, Spock steers the Enterprise back into the proper dimension. Kirk discovers the ambassador's female companion is blind. The ambassador and its companion arrive at their destination.
