Star Trek Review: FRIDAY'S CHILD

Director Joseph Pevney's, "FRIDAY'S CHILD," is a vigorous, slightly spicy, Sci-Fi yarn.

Julie Newmar easily dominates the scenes she's in. Newmar, who played a robot opposite Bob Cummings, in the brief run of "My Living Doll", achieved greatest fame, as "Cat Woman," on the campy, 60's, TV series. Eartha Kitt and Lee Meredith also played the foxy female feline, but Newmar's performance is, er, purr-fect. Sorry.

My favorite scene is when Newmar names McCoy as the baby's father. McCoy's crusty discomfort is a hoot. Under the circumstances, his beside manner is understandably rough hewn.

"Mod Squad" fans will recognize that show's cop, Tige Andrews, as an appropriately sneaky Klingon. He does this role without his usual rug, and is bearded, and seems to enjoy playing the heavy here.

This is one of several classic "Trek" episodes shot in a California desert location, highlighted by a prominent, diagonal rock outcropping. The much photographed rock form also appeared in a fair number of Westerns over the years. More recently, "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey" featured a scene shot there.

"FRIDAY'S CHILD" is rather watchable for some Sci-Fi viewers. Fans of TV's "Cat Woman" will dig this episode. "FRIDAY'S CHILD" is good viewing ANY day of the week.
