Star Trek Review: DAY OF DOVE Director Marvin Chomsky's, DAY OF DOVE, is an exciting tale of Federation/Klingon conflict. Chomsky also directed these Classic "Trek" episodes: "And the Children Shall Lead" and "All Our Yesterdays". His other TV directing credits include: "Attica," (1978), and "Inside the Third Reich," (1981). Michael Ansara gives a powerful performance as Kang, the Klingon. Alert viewers may recognize him from "I Dream of Jeannie", where he sometimes appeared, as a male genie, opposite his then wife, Barbara Eden. Ansara also appeared on many other TV shows, including: "The Outer Limits," "The Time Tunnel," and "Lost in Space". The clever Teleplay was written by Jerome Bixby. Bixby also wrote the Classic "Trek" episodes, "Mirror, Mirror", "By Any Other Name", and "Requiem for Methuselah". It's fun to see Klingons and the Enterprise crew fighting with swords, instead of energy weapons. It add a bit of swashbuckling action to the Space Opera. It's interesting that Classic "Trek" Klingons are actors with swarthy makeup and beards, while the movie and TNG Klingons are much more alien looking. The change in the Klingon look may have more to do with increased budgets than anything else. Mike Minor created the whirling alien FX. He also worked on the art staff of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". DAY OF DOVE should be fairly watchable for most Sci-Fi viewers. BACK TO: TREK EPISODE |
